Allanah is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Auckland. She previously studied a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours Majoring in Neuroscience and Minoring in Pharmacology at the University of Otago.
Allanah has a passion for learning and the way we can apply it to benefit others and the world around us. She has always had a particular interest in Biology and how the fundamental principles can contribute to our understanding of disease, diagnosis and treatment. Sometimes the topics covered in NCEA can be incredibly broad and so a student might like one aspect of a subject but not another.
Allanah hopes to be able to show them how these aspects are important and interesting by tying them in with a bigger overall picture. She hopes that this will pass on a passion for life-long learning. She believes that tutoring is not simply about teaching content, but working with the student to develop effective study techniques which will further facilitate their learning. Allanah uses a lot of visual diagrams to explain concepts and tries to use a range of resources to ensure the student has a firm understanding of the material.
