Raaghav’s Story
Raaghav talks about how tutoring inspired a passion for helping others.
Raaghav talks about how he’s grown with us:
“My tutors could communicate with me clearly and concisely”
Raaghav started out as a student for Inspiration Education while he was at high school doing NCEA. “I needed a little help with English – so I did a little bit of a shop and found IE. Ever since then I’ve just been loving the company.” He said the one-on-one aspect of tutoring was a real game-changer in his education. “I found that the tutors could actually communicate with me clearly and concisely – so that I knew exactly where I was going wrong, and what I could do to fix it. The tutors could focus on my needs and what I could specifically do to improve.” After he received Excellence-level results in his exams, Raaghav left school and became inspired to help others the same way his tutors helped him. “I thought hey, what if I can now return the favour and help other people? In year one of Uni I thought – alright – let me sign up!” – and became an Inspiration Education tutor in Mathematics and Calculus.
“Tutoring always gives you a chance to improve”
Raaghav believes it is the targeted nature of IE’s tutoring that makes it so effective. Specifically: the personalised action plan that students receive in their first lesson. “The action plan is where we sit down with the student in the first session and have a little chat with them and say Hey, where are you at in your studying? Where are you at in your learning? What do you find difficult? How can we help?’ – and this action plan essentially gives us a six-step-outline of the different ways we can attack the problems that the student is having. With the action plan, every week before a session you can go “here’s what I need to do, here’s how I can tackle these problems.”
“It’s worth the investment. If not for the grades, you’ll see their personality develop.”
Raaghav believes that his experience as a student of Inspiration Education has put him in a better position to help his students today. “I have a good understanding of how the students are thinking, what they’re thinking. I’ve been in your shoes, I know what this feels like, and now I’m on the other side of the table so I know how to help you.” He also believes that tutoring can help to develop one’s personality for the better. “Tutoring can help students gain confidence in other aspects of their life. Even just having a conversation with your student can help them to open up, gain the confidence to speak up, and it’ll help them a lot in life. I do think the money is worth the investment. If not for the student’s grades, you’ll see their personality develop and improve. IE definitely made me a better person, in the sense that I am always looking for opportunities to help people now.”
